Travel South Dakota wanted to put the state on travelers’ radar in a big way—what better way than bringing Mount Rushmore to them? Tapping into the natural connection between Presidents’ Day and the iconic monument, the goal was to drive vacation bookings and increase visitor spend.
The Answer:
A jaw-dropping, 1/3 scale replica of Mount Rushmore took center stage at the Galleria Dallas ice-skating rink from January 26 through Presidents’ Day. This icy spectacle turned heads, sparked conversations, and created a must-see moment for shoppers and skaters alike.
The Impact:
Over 500,000 impressions during its stay on the ice.
A record-breaking number of visitors over Presidents’ Day weekend:
- Saturday: 39,600 visitors
- Sunday: 29,400 visitors
- Monday: 17,000 visitors
Swag giveaway highlights:
- 900 stickers, 1,210 pins, 180 patches, 130 T-shirts, 210 travel guides
- The PALS program distributed 200 kits from mid-January through March
- 30 million+ impressions—a massive win for South Dakota tourism
